Start with your passport and current permission, confirm the new sponsorship details with your employer, then follow the document requests in your application.
Start with the renewal you are making
This guide is for a main applicant extending Health and Care Worker permission in the UK. The official extension page describes staying in the same job, occupation code and sponsoring employer while meeting the salary requirements. If your job or employer changed, check the update process instead.
Read the guidance and the document requests in your own application. The sources were checked on 14 October 2026. A general list cannot cover every personal circumstance.
Prepare identity and sponsorship details
Have a valid passport or other accepted identity document ready. Keep your current permission details nearby so you can enter the dates and references accurately. The application will tell you how to prove your identity.
A CoS is a certificate of sponsorship: the employer’s sponsorship record for your job. Ask for the reference and a copy of the relevant details. Check the job title, annual salary, occupation code, employer name and sponsor licence number. An occupation code identifies the type of job.
The general document guide also lists proof of English. Keep the proof used before, and follow the renewal form about what must be supplied for your application. Do not book a new test simply because an old document appears in a general list.
Separate conditional evidence from routine records
Other evidence can depend on your situation. Examples in the official guide include savings, family relationships and translations. If a document is not in English or Welsh, check the certified translation requirement.
The fee guidance explains that evidence of money to support yourself is usually not needed if you have held valid UK permission for at least 12 months, or your employer certifies support in the sponsorship record. Check which position applies before collecting bank statements for that purpose.
Your own pay and employment history can still be useful for checking accuracy. Keeping it does not mean the Home Office requires every payslip or statement for renewal.
Use a short preparation list
Made-up example: a nurse staying with the same employer puts her passport details, sponsorship reference and application checklist together. She notices different salary figures in two records and asks the employer to clarify them before submitting.
In REKODHA, connect job records to the right employer, open each original and mark missing information. Keep the actual checklist and submission receipt with the application. Check family applications separately: extending the main applicant does not automatically extend everyone’s permission.
